10 YEARS

Wow has it really been 10 years?!?!? It feels like yesterday and yet a lifetime ago- crazy. To celebrate our 10 years, Clarke (my extremely frugal husband) let loose and had a bunch of tricks up his sleeve. My wonderful Mother-in-law came up and took care the three kiddos for 3 nights.
We started by going to the temple. Seemed appropriate since this is where we made eternal promises to each other 10 years ago.
Clarke really wanted to eat in Chinatown. I was a little leery because I am not a big Chinese food lover (too greasy). But we felt it was essential in our experiencing San Fran. We went to a random Chinese restaurant and asked what they recommended. She said the BBQ duck. We were feeling adventurous and agreed. GROSS!!!! I took one bite even though I was starving couldn't eat another. Clarke did a little better and his feeling was that it was "different." He couldn't stand to see it go to waste so we asked for a doggie bag (even though I told him it was not allowed to stink up our hotel room) a homeless guy was sitting outside the restaurant asking for change. We gave him our leftovers instead.... poor guy!
BYU came to play at the University of San Fran. The game was so much fun. I felt such camaraderie with all the fans in navy blue rooting on the Cougs. The game was intense, we were ahead the whole time until the last minute and they scored a 3 pointer. It looked like we were doomed but miraculously we scored 2 points on the buzzer. I am not a big sports watcher but it was such a FUN GAME.
So the first night Clarke surprised me with tickets to the San Francisco Ballet. I was really excited for this "Night of Culture" The Ballet was divided into three parts. The first was called Chrome and all the dancers were dressed in skin colored leotards (they looked naked) and it was really harsh and aggressive. The next number was called Beaux. It was pink, romantic, and all men. Very San Francisco-ish. The last number was called #9 and was BY FAR our favorite. It had beautiful costumes and the dancers were graceful.
We ate lunch at the "Stinking Rose" the whole menu is made with garlic, yum! We ordered a Salad and a pasta dish then split it. I thought it was wonderful, Clarke had a headache and could barely eat... I helped him out :)
We hiked to the top of Coit Tower. The views were breathtaking. Outside all the windows people had left different coins from all over the world. I decided to do my part and left a Chuck-e-Cheese token. I would love to hear as people debate over which country has a funny mouse on it's currency.
We got a three day pass on the cable cars and buses. Our first night after waiting over an hour to get on we went about three blocks then a car ran a red light and plowed into our cable car, in fact it hit right by where Clarke and I were sitting. It was kind of exciting.
Clarke took me on a romantic dinner/dance cruise under the bay for our last night. The food was delish and the night was clear and beautiful. The DJ dedicated a song for our 10 year anniversary.
Clarke was adamant about getting to Pier 39 so we went early Sat morning. It was kind of anticlimactic because everything was closed, but it looks like a fun place esp at night. However we enjoyed watching bunches of Sea Lions fight over the dock.
Thanks for the wonderful week... and 10 years Clarke. Love you
P.S. my "gift" after ALL of that was tickets to Wicked in June- wahoo! I have been dying to go for ages.

Random Pictures

This is how "poor Dad" gets a nap around here.
Cute? Sassy? YES
Saturday mornings that Clarke lets me sleep in... thanks Clarke
Best friends.... occasionally
Daring art projects when Mom feels up to it!

Ballet (2nd attempt)

Last time Ballet was a bit of a bust. Lucy would cling to my leg and cry (not really worth 40 dollars!) Hello the difference of a year. This year she loved it. It helped that her friend Kali was in her class. Gracie had to change into her tutu each week and would copy Lucy out in the hall. Next year will be her turn.

Meeting up the Hyers in Sacramento

We meet up with the Hyers in Sacramento and hit a bunch of sites. Here are a few highlights.
Sutters Fort State Historical Park. To be honest we felt cheap at this point and just looked in the fort (and took a picture). It looked low-key but I think it would be fun on a weekend.
The State Indian Museum. Taylor is studing Native Americans in 3rd Grade so she wanted to see the museum. It ended up being pretty cool and it had a fun scavenger hunt for the kiddos.
Both kiddos got tired but with plenty of snack and rides they were good sports.
My favorite part was the Railroad Museum. It has a bunch of trains for the kids to climb on, a big movie, and a kids area on the top floor.
I love my cousins!

The Gibson's were so nice and invited us to join their family for New Years Eve "New York time". The evening was full of food, games, balloons, hyper kids, and a bottle of Martinellies to toast the 'New Years. Happy 2012.

Christmas morning

This year's Christmas was on Sunday which added a little twist but seemed very appropriate to the meaning of the day. The kids each got spoiled and loved every second of it.

Lucy loved her new Rapunzel Barbie and Maximus
Gracie especially loved the candies and treats.
Andrew got a few new games, and a zhu zhu pet fighting arena.
Thank you Grandma and Grandpa B for all the fun new toys!

Christmas Eve

Some pics of Christmas Eve and pre-Christmas. Sorry they are out of order. The kids enjoyed being a part of a candle object lesson. I admit I don't remember a single thing except praying that my kids don't set the barn on fire.
I LOVE the Christmas jammie tradition and I am so thankful that the Bjarnason's have the same traditions. New Christmas Eve jammies are the best esp if you match with your cousins!
Acting out the nativity in the barn... I know that this will be a tradition that my kids always remember.
We helped Grandma B celebrate her birthday this year. The kids all love their Grandma.
Just a note that I probably won't like remembering for ages to come... I ruined the Hyers new dining room table. FYI... yes nail polish on a table isn't the best but it looks much better then after you try and remove it was nail polish remover... life lesson learned, sorry Hyers!
